Writer: Bryan ZarBryan Zar

At Checkride Coach, we celebrate aviation excellence and those who go above and beyond to shape the next generation of pilots. Today, we are proud to highlight Bryan Zar, who has been awarded the Master Flight Instructor (MCFI) accreditation by the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI).

A Journey Fueled by Passion

Bryan Zar’s aviation journey is nothing short of inspiring. Growing up, he was captivated by the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds at airshows near his hometown, and his father, an Air Force and National Guard veteran, instilled a deep appreciation for aviation. However, it wasn’t until July 2021, at the age of 41, that Zar took his first flight lesson—proving that it’s never too late to chase your dreams.

What began as a personal challenge quickly evolved into a second career. In just three years, he earned his CFI, CFII, and MEI and is now recognized as a NAFI Master Flight Instructor—an achievement that reflects his dedication to professionalism, education, and mentoring in aviation.

A Leader in Aviation Education

Zar serves as a King Air Captain for Apex Aero in Houma, Louisiana, where he flies Part 135 medical charter flights, a role he finds deeply rewarding. Additionally, he is the Assistant Chief Instructor at Gulf Coast Aviation in New Orleans, Louisiana, the largest Part 141 flight school in the state. His passion for teaching and mentoring pilots is evident in every aspect of his work.

As if that weren’t impressive enough, Zar is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Aeronautics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. His commitment to continuing education serves as an inspiration for both aspiring and experienced aviators.

What is the NAFI Master Flight Instructor Accreditation?

The NAFI Master Flight Instructor accreditation is a highly respected distinction in the flight training community. It is awarded based on professional standards and peer review and recognizes instructors who demonstrate a commitment to excellence, professional growth, and service to aviation.

To qualify, candidates must:✔ Have at least two years of experience as a CFI✔ Log at least 1,000 hours of flight instruction✔ Show achievement in four key categories: Instruction, Education, Service to the Aviation Community, and Professional Activity

This accreditation is valid for two years and can also be used to renew an FAA flight instructor certificate.

An Inspiration for Future Aviators

Beyond the cockpit and classroom, Bryan and his wife, Brooke, have owned and operated Restaurant des Familles in Crown Point, Louisiana, since 2009. When he’s not flying or teaching, they enjoy traveling, exploring New Orleans, and riding motorcycles.

Zar’s journey is a testament to the power of dedication, lifelong learning, and passion for aviation. His recognition as a Master Flight Instructor reflects his exceptional skill and leadership in the flight training community.

Congratulations, Bryan! Your hard work and passion continue to inspire pilots everywhere.
